The proposed pressure or force transducer contains a light source, a polarizer based on a NH2(CH3)2MnC13 2H2O monocrystal, stress-optical detecting element, a retarder, an analyzer, and a photodetector. The transducer generates an output signal that is proportional to the change of the refraction coefficient of the light transmitted through the polarizer as the result of the piezooptical effect induced by the action of the pressure or force.
