Polyethylene and a saturated, amorphous copolymer of an a -olefin with ethylene or with an a -olefin are mixed at a temperature above the softening point of polyethylene (e.g. at 125-170 DEG C.), a vulcanizing agent is added (e.g. at 60-90 DEG C.), the mix is then shaped (e.g. at 110-125 DEG C.) and finally vulcanization is effected (e.g. at 150-180 DEG C.). a -olefins specified are propylene and butene, and isotactic homopolymers thereof also may be present. Vulcanizing agents specified are cumyl-, t-butyl cumyl- and tetrachloro di-t-butylperoxides, and sulphur. In the examples, bis (2 - hydroxy - 3 - t - butyl - 5 - methyl - phenyl) methane is included as antioxidant. Applications specified are pipes and electrical insulation of cables. |
