A portable terminal having a screen protection function and a photographing method using the same are provided to prevent a user's face or pose from being exposed to others through the screen in photographing by himself by inactivating the display part or displaying a previously selected image. A portable terminal having a screen protection function comprises a camera part(50), a storage part(80), a display part(70), and a control part(90). The camera part(50) picks up the image of an object. The storage part(80) stores the image inputted from the camera part(50). The display part(70) receives a preview image inputted by the camera part(50) and displays it. In self-photographing mode, the control part(90) blocks the transmission of the preview image to the display part(70). After blocking the transmission of the preview image, the control part(90) inactivates the display part(70) or displays a still image or a moving picture on the display part(70).
