A display device and a display method responsive to an external environment are provided to allow a user to view a screen image with good readability without having to re-configure the screen image. An illumination measurement unit(10) measures illumination. A controller(20) determines display setting conditions according to the measured illumination value and transmits a corresponding control signal. A display unit(40) receives the display control signal and displays an image according to the set conditions. A temperature measurement unit(15) measures temperature. A data storage unit(30) stores the setting conditions to be determined by the controller(20). The data storage unit(30) stores information about one or more of types, brightness and color of images according to an operation mode.
