A mobile terminal having a personal financial management function and a method thereof are provided to conveniently and reliably perform personal financial management by comparing the total amount of card transaction and cash transaction with an appointed budget. The user of a mobile terminal inputs a specific period and a designated budget, which will be used during the specific period, through an input part(S10). Then, if the details of the expenses for cash and card transactions are inputted(S20), a control part sums up the amount of the card transactions and the amount of the cash transactions and produces the total expenditure(S30). The control part compares the total expenditure with the designated budget and judges whether the total expenditure exceeds the designated budget(S40). If it is judged that the total expenditure exceeds the designated budget, the control part displays a warning message through a display part(S50). However, in case the total expenditure doesn't exceed the designated budget, the control part calculates the balance between the total expenditure and the designated budget and the remaining period till the specific period(S60). The control part displays the calculated balance and period through the display part(S70).
