A device and a method for displaying sound wave are provided to satisfy visual effect desired by a user, by displaying the magnitude of the sound wave of an audio signal when reproducing a music file. A device for displaying sound wave comprises an audio control unit(11), a sound wave measuring unit(12), a graphic control unit(13), an input unit(14b), and a control unit(15). The audio control unit receives a digital signal and outputs an audio signal by conversion. The sound wave measuring unit detects the magnitude of the sound wave of the audio signal output from the audio control unit. The graphic control unit displays the magnified magnitude of the sound wave at a reproduced portion of an audio signal progress indicator. The input unit inputs an order to control operation of each component. The control unit changes a display mode of a display unit(14a) according to the operation of the input unit and controls operation of each component.
