A flexible member 2, adapted to support the inner surface of a tyre 24 during tyre shaping and vulcanizing operation by the introduction of a pressurizing fluid, comprises a wall of expandable material possessing a plurality of land portions 30 separated by interconnecting channels 31 to vent air from between the wall and inner surface of the tyre 24. The channels 31 connect with the bead areas 17, 18 of the tyre 24. The land portions may be of varying size and shape and randomly disposed with channels 31 of varying depth being deeper at the bead areas 17, 18 than at the central portion 23 of the tyre 24. The tyre 24 is vulcanized in a two part mould 9, ribs and pockets being formed on the inner surface of the tyre corresponding to the channels 31 and land portions 30 respectively of the flexible member 2. Flexible member 2 is a cylindrical diaphragm. A toroidal bag with similar surface configurations is also described.
