A cosmetic composition comprising an extract of Nymphaea caerulea is provided to alleviate the skin irritation significantly and secure increased anti-inflammatory activity, thereby providing excellent skin irritation-reducing effect when being applied to cosmetics. A cosmetic composition for reducing skin irritation comprises 0.0001-20.0 wt.% of an extract of Nymphaea caerulea as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is extracted by using a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, C1-4 alcohol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, 1,3-butyleneglycol and butyl acetate. The composition is in the form of solution, suspension, emulsion, paste, gel, cream, lotion, powder, soap, surfactant-containing cleansing, oil, powder foundation, emulsion foundation, wax foundation or spray.
