Aqueous solutions of alkali and alkalineearth metal chlorites used for bleaching are activated by the addition thereto of hexamethylene tetramine. The solutions preferably contains 0.01-0.5 mol of activation to each mol of chlorite and bleaching is preferably carried out at 50-100 DEG C. The solutions are preferably used for bleaching cellulosic materials, e.g. nettle fabric and cord fabric. |
