OPTICAL FIBER CORE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

An optical fiber core that exhibits a thrust-out performance superior to those of the prior art; and a process for producing the same. The optical fiber core is characterized in that an optical fiber strand composed of a glass optical fiber provided on the outer circumference thereof with a primary coating layer and a secondary coating layer is further provided on the outer circumference thereof with a tertiary coating layer composed mainly of a thermoplastic polyester elastomer, and that the outer diameter of the primary coating layer is in the range of 180 to 200 µm and the outer diameter of the secondary coating layer in the range of 350 to 450 µm, and that the product of the thickness of the secondary coating layer of the optical fiber strand multiplied by the pullout force of the glass optical fiber from the optical fiber strand is 720 N/mm.µm or greater.
