An elbow assembly (218) for a mask system includes an elbow (230) including a slot (238) and a port (240), an anti-asphyxia valve (250) adapted to be received within the slot (238) and including a flap portion (252) adapted to selectively close the port (240) depending on the presence of pressurized gas, and a clip member (270) to secure the anti-asphyxia valve (250) to the elbow (230). The clip member (270) includes a slot (272) that is adapted to interlock with a protrusion (254) provided to the anti-asphyxia valve (250). The clip member (270) includes wings (276). The wings (276) are structured such that the wings (276) protrude outwardly from the elbow (230) when the clip member (270) is secured to the elbow (230).
