Disclosed are an ultraviolet coating material curing system and a method for curing a coating material, which enable to decrease the running cost by reducing consumption of an inert gas. Specifically disclosed is an ultraviolet coating material curing system (10) comprising a process chamber (12), light sources (61a, 61b) and cooling means (41a, 41b). The process chamber (12) is constituted of wall portions (12a, 12b, 12g, 12h) whose inner surfaces respectively serve as a light-reflecting surface, so that an inert gas heavier than air is pooled inside the process chamber (12). The light sources (61a, 61b) irradiate a work (W) passing through the process chamber (12) with ultraviolet light. The cooling means (41a, 41b) cool the wall portions (12g, 12h), which respectively face the light sources (61a, 61b), from the outer surface side.
