The method involves controlling the passage of an upper gear shifting, if a vehicle has a speed higher than an upper threshold associated to an engaged gear shifting or an intermediary gear shifting, and if an accelerator pedal of the vehicle occupies a position higher than a predetermined height. The passage to a lower gear shifting is controlled, if the speed is lower than a lower threshold associated to the engaged gear shifting and if the pedal occupies a position lower than a predetermined lower threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for informing a driver of a motor vehicle the proximity of a shifting.
