Provided is a socket for always connecting the electronic components in correct directions. Socket side engaging sections (9) are arranged at a plurality of areas on peripheral walls (3) of a socket housing (5) having an electronic component storing section (4), which is surrounded by the peripheral walls (3) raised from the four sides of a square bottom plate (2). The socket side engaging section (9) is provided with an elastic fixing piece for locking a fixing protrusion (9a) at the leading end to the bottom section of each recessed locking section on the peripheral walls of the electronic component (6). The electronic component is held in an electronic component storing section (4) by the socket side engaging sections (9). A plurality of the socket side engaging sections (9) are arranged at an interval on the both end sides on one side (3d) of facing two sides (3b, 3d) of the peripheral walls (3) on the four sides (3a-3d) of the socket housing (5). On the other side (3b), one or a plurality of the socket side engaging sections are adjacently arranged at the center.
