A method for preparing cyclic olefin polymers having a polar functional group is provided to prevent inactivation of a catalyst caused by a polar functional group, moisture, and oxygen, and produce the cyclic olefin polymers having high molecular weight in high yield. A method for preparing cyclic olefin polymers having a polar functional group includes a step of bringing a catalyst mixture into contact with a monomer solution comprising a cyclic olefinic monomer having a polar functional group. The catalyst mixture comprises a group 10 metal-containing pre-catalyst represented by the following formula 1, an organic phosphorous-based ligand represented by the following formula 2, and a cocatalyst which is represented by the following formula 3 and is a salt compound capable of providing an anion to be weakly coordinated to the group 10 metal.
