The present invention relates to a method and an appropriately customized data storage medium for contactless, particularly parallel, communication between a reader (200) and at least two applications (10, 20, 30) on a portable data storage medium (100) which are ready for communication. In this case, a first communication readiness signal is produced for a first application (10, 20, 30) and is sent to the reader (200), the signal comprising a first identification number which is associated with the first application (10, 20, 30) and indicates to the reader (200) that this first application is ready for communication, and a second communication readiness signal is produced for a second application (10, 20, 30) and is sent, the second signal comprising a second identification number which is different from the first identification number and which is associated with this second application and indicates to the reader (200) that this second application is ready for communication. The identification numbers respectively pretend to the reader that a data storage medium is ready for communication. This provides the reader with the impression that it is in communication with applications from two separate data storage media.
