Method for the early and prognostic diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) through evaluating the excess expression of the ATPV1C1 gene and/or its transcription products. In addition to this compounds inhibiting excess expression of the ATPV1C1 gene may be used in the treatment of this cancerous disease. Likewise the kit for carrying out the method previously mentioned.
