PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve startability during re-starting in a control system of an internal combustion engine for restricting the opening of a throttle valve in the process of stopping the operation of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In this control system of an internal combustion engine, the opening of the throttle valve is restricted in the process of stopping the operation of the internal combustion engine and, after the stop of the internal combustion engine, the opening of the throttle valve is increased. If an intake pressure during the re-starting is not recovered to a pressure suitable for starting, the shortage of intake air amount is eliminated quickly by increasing the opening of the throttle valve more than the opening thereof for starting.
