ROUTE CALCULUS OF AREA AROUND TRAFFIC BOTTLENECK USING MARKED DETOUR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide vehicle navigation system containing route computation module which can use marked detour to avoid traffic accident or bottleneck. SOLUTION: The vehicle navigation system (Fig. 1, 100) comprises the route computation module (Fig. 2, 204) movable so as to avoid traffic accident by using marked detour. This navigation system includes a simulation module (212) used to simulate any traffic accident which may occur along the route up to traveling destination. The marked detour module (214) is used to calculate a plurality of marked detours for avoiding any traffic accident which may occur along the route. If a traffic accident occurs along the route, the route computation module searches only those roads containing marked detour to determine alternative route which bypasses the traffic accident.
