PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hardly cause conveyance trouble by improving the strength and durability of an edge part of a fireproof hearth in a walking hearth furnace to reduce the danger of block collapse. SOLUTION: Corner blocks 11 molded/baked beforehand to have approximately L-shaped side faces are juxtaposed adjacently to the side edge of a hearth base 10 so that the rising side parts 11b are on the outside, and standard blocks 12 are placed to straddle the horizontal side parts 11a of the respective adjacent corner blocks. A side edge member 5 of the hearth base in which a water-cooling pipe 6 is embedded is formed with a slant face part 8 with its upper face inclining inward, and a heel part lower face of the corner block 11 is formed with a cutout face 11c shaped along the slant face part so that the cutout face abuts on the slant face part.
