<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for predicting the flower color of a flower and ornamental plant. <P>SOLUTION: The method for predicting the flower color of the flower and ornamental plant before flowering is carried out as follows. A combination of multiple alleles H<SP>T</SP>, H<SP>F</SP>, H<SP>Z</SP>, H<SP>D</SP>and H<SP>O</SP>derived from a pollen parent and a seed parent gamete of an enzyme reaction system containing a flavonoid 3',5'-hydroxylase related to hydroxylation of a B ring in a dye precursor of a flavonoid biosynthesis of the flower and ornamental plant is determined from a tissue of the flower and ornamental plant before the flowering on the basis of the flavonoid 3',5'-hydroxylase gene corresponding to the multiple alleles. The flower color of the flower and ornamental plant before the flowering is predicted on the basis of a correlation of the combination of the multiple alleles between the pollen parent and the seed parent gamete and the flower color for the genotype H<SP>X</SP>H<SP>X</SP>-Pg/pg-Cy/cy-Dp/dp.
