PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a container simply and compactly housing a microorganism or a biomolecule such as a nucleic acid, a peptide and a protein, stably preserving the microorganism or biomolecule under normal temperature and atmospheric pressure conditions or distributing the microorganism or biomolecule or drying a sample thereof while preserving the sample, and to provide a method for preparing the container. SOLUTION: The container housing the microorganism or biomolecule is provided with a base plate having each housing part formed by passing through the front and back surfaces, a flexible support housed in the housing part in a such a state as to be detachable and holding the microorganism or biomolecule and a first sheet and a second sheet peelably applied to the front and back surfaces of the base plate so as to cover openings of the housing part. The housing part is equipped with a holding part holding the support and the holding part has a seat part brought into contact with a peripheral edge part of the support and an engaging part protruding from the inner peripheral surface to the inside. The support is held between the seat part and the engaging part of the holding part by slidably bringing the peripheral edge thereof into close contact with the inner peripheral surface of the holding part.
