<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combination of various materials for making a bipolar plate hydrophilic and conductive with cost saved. <P>SOLUTION: A stainless steel flow field plate of a fuel cell has a layer of titanium or titanium oxide and a layer of titanium oxide/ruthenium oxide making the plate conductive and hydrophilic. In one case of implementation, by using an appropriate process such as PVD or CVD, titanium as pure metal or an oxide is deposited on the surface of the stainless steel bipolar plate. Ethanol solution of ruthenium chloride is painted with a brush on the titanium layer. Next, the plate is baked to provide a titanium oxide/ruthenium oxide layer with dimensional stability on the stainless steel, and the layer is endowed with hydrophilicity and conductivity under an environment of the fuel cell. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
