<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus the illegitimate use of which by a third party can be suppressed by acting like as if to be installed with a security function even when the image processing apparatus is not actually installed with the security function. <P>SOLUTION: In a copy mode, the image processing apparatus reads image data of an original and stores received image data to a hard disk unit. The image processing apparatus prints out the image data. When the print is finished, if the image processing apparatus is installed with the security function, the image data are deleted, but because the image processing apparatus is not installed with the security function, the image data are not deleted.
