PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image satisfactory for a long period by uniformly and stably applying a lubricant on an image carrier over time from an initial period. SOLUTION: The lubricant applicator 40 comprises the lubricant 41, and a lubricant supplying member 42 for supplying the lubricant to a photoreceptor (image carrier) 11 by rotating in contact with the lubricant and is provided around the photoreceptor in its rotating direction (a) and in the downstream position of a cleaning device 17. Such lubricant applicator includes a lubricant supplying member cleaning means 44, such as a flicker made of a resin, downstream of an image carrier contact position (m) of the lubricant supplying member and upstream of the lubricant contact position (n) in the rotating direction (b) of the lubricant supplying member. Also, the surroundings of the photoreceptor are equipped with a lubricant applying and spreading member 45 for uniformly applying and spreading the lubricant on the surface of the photoreceptor downstream of the image carrier contact position of the lubricant supplying member in the rotating direction thereof.
