PROCESSOR EMBEDDED WITH IN-CIRCUIT PROGRAMMING STRUCTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an integrated circuit (10) having in-circuit programming to dynamically change an instruction set of the in-circuit programming.

SOLUTION: This in-circuit programming is structured based on a micro-controller (11) on an integrated circuit. The integrated circuit is provided with two or more banks of a nonvolatile memory array storing instructions and includes in-circuit programming instruction sets (40). A device uses a control program stored therein to establish in-circuit programming exchange with others, and updates data and software including the in-circuit programming instruction sets if necessary. A processor and an ICP code responds to an instruction to update the in-circuit programming, writes a copy of the in-circuit programming instruction sets from a first memory array (17) to a second memory array (16), executes it and programs the nonvolatile memory cell of the first memory array with the data from an external port.
