<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston capable of inexpensively preventing the peeling off of the coating layer of the piston and improving its durability, a reciprocating fluid machine having the piston, and the manufacturing method of the piston. <P>SOLUTION: In this reciprocating fluid machine (2) with the piston (32) reciprocated in a cylinder bore (40), the side surface (32a) of the piston includes a cylindrical surface part (64) being in slide contact with the cylinder bore through the coated layer (66), a ring groove part (68) mounted on a piston ring (34), and a taper surface part (70) formed between the cylindrical surface part and the ring groove part, inclined from the cylindrical surface part toward the ring groove part, and separated from the cylinder bore.
