<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength detecting device which can perform wavelength detection though it is simple and compact, an optical pickup device using it, and to provide an optical information recording medium recording and reproducing device. <P>SOLUTION: When luminous flux having higher wavelength (e.g. 410 nm) than the reference wavelength is made incident on a filter element FLT, luminous flux transmitting through a selective transmission reflection plane TRP is more than reflecting luminous flux. That is, light-receiving amount detected by a first photodetecting part PDA is more than light-receiving amount detected by a second photodetecting part PDB. Therefore, the signal output from the first detecting part PDA becomes larger than the signal output from the second detecting part PDB, since a controller CPU inputting these signals judges that light source wavelength is higher than 405 nm (e.g. 410 nm), a collimation lens CL is shifted to a position being suitable for the case in which the light source wavelength is 410 nm.
