PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a box type drying container suitably used for drying particularly a powdery material or powder which is raw material for chemicals and food, without causing drying unevenness, and a powdery material or powder drying method using the box-type drying container. SOLUTION: The box type drying container is constituted to place a plurality of dried material storage containers horizontally in a line in the drying container, to allow drying gas flow to pass through horizontally in the container through gas flow control plates provided at both right and left wall parts in a horizontal direction and to alternately switch the supply direction and exhaust direction of the drying gas flow passing through horizontally in the container by the opening/closing changeover of an automatic valve. In the drying method, the powdery material or powder is put in the dried material storage containers which are further put in the box type drying container, and the supply direction and exhaust direction of the drying gas flow are periodically and alternately switched to dry the powdery material or powder.
