PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform contact avoidance assistance while stabilizing the behavior of a vehicle even on a lowμroad. SOLUTION: The traveling safety device for the vehicle is provided with a contact determination part 25 for determining possibility of contact of an obstacle detected by an object position detection part 21 with an own vehicle; a target lateral G setting means for setting target lateral G of the own vehicle for avoiding the contact of the own vehicle with the obstacle; a target steering angle setting means for setting a target steering angle of the own vehicle for avoiding the contact of the own vehicle with the obstacle; EPS actuator 17 and a traveling control part 26 for controlling steering of the vehicle so as to avoid the contact when it is determined that there is a possibility of the contact; and a behavior delaying detection means for detecting delaying of response of the vehicle behavior relative to steering control by the traveling control part 26. The traveling control part 26 control it such that actual lateral G of the vehicle approaches to the target lateral G and controls it such that an actual steering angle of the vehicle approaches to the target steering angle when delaying of response of the vehicle behavior is detected by the behavior delaying detection means.
