PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of improving the operability of a GUI or the like by enhancing a remote controller used for a device to be controlled such as a digital television receiver. SOLUTION: In order to select any of a plurality of representative images such as icons and thumbnails displayed on a screen 102 of the digital television receiver, a desired representative image is selected by shifting the position of the desired representative image in a planar direction on the display screen of the representative images through the operation applied to a cursor key arranged on an operation panel 231S of a housing 201 of the remote controller 200, and on the other hand, in order to switchingly select another layer virtually superimposed in a perpendicular direction to the screen 102 and any of a plurality of representative image display images with different categories from each other as if to turn over pages, the switching selection is executed on the basis of a detection output of a mobile mode detection section 211 caused by changing or like processing applied to the posture of the housing 201 or the like.
