PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter capable of securing strength of a bearing position regulating part of a center case, and capable of preventing interference between the center case and a shift lever, while restraining an increase in the total length of the starter. SOLUTION: A stopper part 14d projecting in the radial direction from an outer peripheral surface 14c of an outer race 14b, is arranged in a motor 2 side end part of the outer race 14b in the outer race 14b of a bearing 14. This stopper part 14d is allowed to abut on a regulating surface 15a being a regulating part formed in the center case 15. Thus, since the projecting length of the center case 15 to the shift lever 6 side can be largely shortened more than a case of a conventional starter 100 while securing sufficient strength of the regulating surface 15a, the interference between the center case 15 and the shift lever 6 can be prevented without dislocating an axial position of the bearing 14, in other words, without extending the total length of the starter 1.
