A method for embedding a 2-component message in an image is provided to perform the direct reversible embedding of certain watermarks without spectral conversion by the quantization and modification of an amplitude value of a signal in a state when it is impossible to access an original image and know a transmitted message in a receiving terminal. A signal for displaying an image having a certain message embedded by the luminance change of image pixels includes an image component and a variable component of the image. The image component is not changed when embedding the message including the image pixels having a luminance which is not changed when embedding the message. The variable component has the embedded message including the image pixels whose luminance is changed when embedding the message. Respective bits of the embedded message are coded by luminance values of the respective pixels of the variable component.
