PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system devised to reduce a load on a CPU on a camera body side by making it unnecessary for the camera body side to perform the processing of converting the number of pixels of through-picture display and matching the converted number with the number of pixels of a display picture. SOLUTION: An imaging unit includes an image generating section, an image transmitting section which transmits an image signal toward the camera body, and a selectable pixel number ("pixel number" represents "the number of pixels" hereinafter) information reporting section which reports information on the selectable number of pixels to the camera body. The camera body includes an image receiving section, an image display section, a selectable pixel number information receiving section, a pixel number selecting section, and a selected pixel number information reporting section which reports selected pixel number information to the imaging unit. The imaging unit further includes a selected pixel number receiving section which receives the selected pixel number information reported by the camera body and a control section which makes the image generating section generate an image signal having the number of pixels represented by the selected pixel number information and makes the image transmitting section transmit the image signal.
