PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device in which influence from a heat source is not transmitted to a fixing roller in such a state that the fixing roller is stopped and which therefore is highly safe. SOLUTION: The fixing device has: a rotating body for heating; an infrared light source arranged to be opposed to the rotating body and generating infrared light; an infrared light reflection member for reflecting the infrared light to the rotating body side, and a safety element for detecting abnormal temperature rise. The fixing device further has a shielding member which moves to space between the rotating body and the infrared light source when rotating and driving the rotating body is stopped, and shields the rotating body therefrom.
