PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape measure which is easy to carry and has an easily graspable shape, without increasing its outside diameter. SOLUTION: The tape measure includes a case (21), a tape drum (22) which is supported with a shaft in the case and around which a measuring band is wound, a first gear (25) supported by the same axis as that of the tape drum and to which the rotation of the tape drum is transmitted, a second gear (26) engaged with the first gear, the rotary shaft (26b) of a biasing member which is formed so as to rotate as one body with the second gear on an axis on an extension of the rotary shaft (26a) of the second gear, and to which one end of the biasing member (28) is fixed, and a hollow drum (23) which is in the shape of a hollow cylinder whose one end side is open, and is fixed to the case with the open side made to face the second gear, and wherein the rotary shaft of the biasing member is arranged inside the hollow part and moreover the other end of the biasing member is fixed to the inner circumference (23d) of the hollow part. Rotation of the tape drum on the occasion of drawing the measuring band out is transmitted to the biasing member via the first gear, the second gear, and the rotary shaft of the biasing member, and a restoring force is generated.
