PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce optimum video and sound and to facilitate viewing by separately selecting the video and the sound of each layer of simultaneous broadcast. SOLUTION: The digital broadcast receiver receives, demodulates and decodes the simultaneous broadcast wherein at least two hiearchies for which segments constituting a transmission frequency band are combined are used, the video and the sound data of the same program are multiplexed in the respective hiearchies and hierarchical transmission is performed, and generates the video and the sound frame data of the respective hierarchies. The digital broadcast receiver includes a video hierarchy selection means for selecting the video frame data of the hierarchy to be reproduced from the video frame data decoded for the respective hierarchies and outputting them and a sound hierarchy selection means for selecting the sound frame data of the hierarchy to be reproduced from the sound frame data decoded for the respective hierarchies and outputting them.
