PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for removing the projecting defect on a coated surface capable of removing and flattening the projecting defect on the coated surface by fewer labor and time. SOLUTION: The projecting defect on the coated surface is removed by: a first step 201 for measuring the three-dimensional shape of the projecting defect on the coated surface; a second step 202 for determining an optimum laser-beam intensity distribution for removing only the projecting defect on the basis of the three-dimensional shape of the projecting defect measured at the first step 201; and a third step 203 for irradiating the projecting defect with laser beams according to the laser-beam intensity distribution determined at the step 202. Because the projecting defect is irradiated with laser beams from a laser device in a conventional manner, the excess and deficiency in the removal volume of the defect occurs due to the excess and deficiency in the quantity of laser beams irradiated and the intensity of laser beams. Therefore, a finishing process is required in conventional devices. The occurrence of the excess and deficiency in the removal volume of the defect is inhibited by irradiating the projecting defect with laser beams, according to the optimum laser-beam intensity distribution corresponding to the three-dimensional shape of the projecting defect, thereby not requiring the finishing process.
