PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an addresser to check the contents of an attached file at his/her own terminal when an electronic mail transmitted from a client terminal is sent out to an opposite party with an image file attached thereto by an MFP (Multiple Function Peripheral). SOLUTION: After receiving information by an electronic mail from the client terminal, the MFP reads a manuscript and calculates the amount of data therein (steps S1, S2, and S3). From the amount of data and from information on limited capacity of memories in a mail server of each addressee, it is judged whether and how far the amount of attached data should be reduced. In accordance therewith, addressees are grouped (step S4). For every group, image data are compressed or resolution is reduced to prepare attached files (step S5). In this event, an electronic mail address of an addresser extracted from information in a received electronic mail is added to non-displayed addressee of simultaneous transmission of a transmission group whose amount of data is most reduced.
