PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing a disulfide compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing a disulfide compound expressed by formula: R-S-S-R [wherein R is an alkyl or a cycloalkyl] by introducing a halogenated compound expressed by formula: R-X [wherein R is the same as above; and X is a halogen atom], an alkali metal sulfide and sulfur into a reaction vessel and reacting is characterized by setting the amounts of the halogenated substance, alkali metal sulfide and sulfur as the alkali metal sulfide/the halogenated substance=0.6 to 0.7 by the molar ratio of the alkali metal sulfate to the halogenated compound, the sulfur/the halogenated substance=0.5 to 0.6 by the molar ratio of the sulfur to the halogenated substance and also the sulfur/the alkali metal sulfide=0.72 to 0.85 range by the molar ratio of the sulfur to the alkali metal sulfide.
