SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INQUIRING ABOUT AUTOMOBILE NUMBER

A system and a method for inquiring a license number of a vehicle are provided to enable a patrol car to inquire the license number of the vehicle by capturing a vehicle image, extracting the license number from the vehicle image, and inquiring the license number to a management server including a wanted vehicle database. A camera(100) captures a license plate of the vehicle in the patrol car(10). A license number recognizer(200) extracts the license number from a captured license plate image. A transceiver(300) transmits the extracted license number to the management server(400) and receives a response signal from the management server. The management server requests a signal corresponding to an inquiry request from each patrol car and determines whether the received license number corresponds to a wanted vehicle or not by using the wanted vehicle database(500) collecting and storing the license numbers corresponding to the wanted vehicle. An output part(700) informs a user of the wanted vehicle depending on the response signal. A storing part(800) stores the vehicle image and a response result corresponding to the license number.
