FIELD: mining. ^ SUBSTANCE: method of excavation by scrapers in tandem includes simultaneous filling buckets of scrapers in tandem; the scraper buckets are fitted with discretely varied knife systems composed of central and side knives arranged symmetrically; the total width of the knives is equal to the width of each bucket. At the beginning of excavation the bucket of the front scraper operates with side knives and the bucket of the rear scraper - with the central knife; during performance of this operation cutting depth h is set equal for both the buckets of the scrapers and such mode of excavation is maintained over length L equal to not less than the overall length of the scraper. After complete filling the buckets of the scrapers in tandem at length L cutting depth equal to h1=(0.85...0.9) h is set for the bucket of the rear scraper; after complete filling of the bucket of the front scraper it is raised and the bucket of the rear scraper continues the operation at length L to excavate the soil remaining after the run of the bucket of the front scraper with cutting depth h1; the filling of the bucket of the rear scraper is completed with the cutting width equal to the width of the bucket. ^ EFFECT: reduction of time and the travel distance for filling buckets of scrapers in tandem and reduction of the face length. ^ 12 dwg
