PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition having excellent gas barrier properties under high-humidity conditions and suppressed coloring by a high-temperature heat treatment and to provide a film using the resin composition. SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises a polyvinyl alcoholic resin (A) having a 1,2-diol structural unit and a polycarboxylic acid (B). The 1,2-diol structural unit is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>represent each independently a hydrogen atom or an organic group; X represents a single bond or a linking chain; and R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>represent each independently a hydrogen atom or an organic group).
