<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct methanol fuel cell achieving high output by using a catalyst and methanol having high concentration. <P>SOLUTION: In an electrolyte membrane/electrode assembly for the direct methanol fuel cell interposing a solid polymer electrolyte membrane between a pair of electrodes comprising a catalyst layer coated and/or impregnated on and/or into a porous support, the solid polymer electrolyte membrane is obtained by irradiating radiations to a resin membrane to graft-polymerize radical-polymerizable monomers, the catalyst layer of an anode contains a catalyst formed by carrying a platinum group metal or platinum-containing alloy fine particles having a particle size of 5 nm or less on carbon particles and a solid polymer electrolyte, and the content of noble metal in the catalyst layer of the anode is 5 mg/cm<SP>2</SP>or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
