PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading apparatus that secures user's safety. SOLUTION: The document reading apparatus comprises a top cover having an automatic document conveyor having a conveyance part which sends documents mounted on an original platen, sheet by sheet, and automatically conveys them along a predetermined conveyance path, a contact glass disposed opposite the document conveyed by the automatic document conveyor, a heat radiating member arranged opposite the contact glass when the contact glass is covered with the top cover, and an image reader which irradiates a conveyed document with light from the lower part of the contact glass and receives reflected light reflected by the document to return. The heat radiating member comes into contact with the contact glass while no document is conveyed by the automatic document conveyor in a period wherein the contact glass is covered with the top cover, and nips the conveyed document with the contact glass in a free passage state while the document is conveyed by the automatic document conveyor.
