894,158. Lathe details. PONGRACZ, F. May 16, 1960 [May 19, 1959; April 21, 1960], No. 17247/60. Class 83 (3). Reciprocating-gripper feed collet comprises an inner guide bushing with a number of longitudinally extending slots and an outer bushing with an internal conical surface, clamping elements being arranged for rolling and sliding movement axially of the slots and pressed against the conical surface by a spring. The gripper, which is fed to the left for stockfeeding, comprises an inner tubular member 1, Fig. 3, which has a number of longitudinal slots, equally-spaced circumferentially which support balls 9 which project through the slots sufficiently to grip the stock. An outer sleeve 5 is screwed on the inner sleeve and has an internal tapered part 8 opposite the slots. A spring 10, retained by a collar 4 tends to urge the balls out of wedging engagement with the stock and tapered portion. Alternate balls 13 Fig. 4, may be of larger diameter than the balls 9 so that the same gripper may be used for two ranges of stock diameter. Rollers with eccentric pivot-pins may be used in lieu of balls. An alternative construction of gripper has opposed ball-clutch sleeves one with a steeper tapered portion than the other. |
