Bandaging material comprises, on the wound side, a flexible hydrophobic layer of woven or knitted polyamide or polyamide fibres which is welded or glued to a backing of absorbent material. The absorbent material comprises compressed natural or synthetic cellulose fibres, wadding or compressed polyamide fibres. Similar intermediate layers of polyamide interconnected by welding may be disposed between layers of the absorbent material. The polyamide layers may be rendered shrink-resistant by heating and may be embossed.
