A backlight assembly including a universal lamp unit (400) with a common connecting structure coupling a lamp (410) and an inverter (430) through a lamp socket (420) and a conductor (440) when connecting the lamp (410) and the inverter (430) with each other, a liquid crystal display including the same and a method of manufacturing thereof. Backlight assembly includes a mold frame (800) including a receiving space therein and a lamp unit (400) disposed in the receiving space of the mold frame (800). The lamp unit (400) includes at least one lamp (410), and at least one pair of lamp sockets (420) disposed on the mold frame (800). The pair of lamp sockets (420) secure the lamp (410) and apply electric power to the lamp (410).
