896,071. Resistors. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Sept. 22, 1960 [Oct. 12, 1959], No. 32600/60. Class 37. Resistors are prepared by depositing on insulating material a metal film of less than the required resistance, subsequently obtaining the latter by anodization. Cathode 6, Fig. 2, is held in anodizing electrolyte 5 maintained between walls 4 of beeswax on sputtered or vacuum evaporated tantalum film 3. The anodizing voltage is increased until the resistance of the film measured between terminals 2A and 2B by monitoring means 10 reaches the desired value. A photo resist mask may be employed instead of a beeswax dam. All the resistive components of a printed circuit board may be deposited simultaneously, and subsequently individually anodized. Suitable film metals and anodizing solutions are listed, and numerical data are included. |
