A motor for an electric submersible pump has a rotor mounted in a bearing and an annular stator within which the rotor and bearing are disposed. A spring clip 3702 fitted to the stator 3703,211 engages in a shallow axial groove 3701 in the bearing outer ring 3704 to prevent relative rotation between the stator and the bearing outer ring. When the bearing outer ring 3704 is inserted into the stator bore during assembly of the motor, if the groove 3701 is not aligned with the spring clip 3702, the resilient lead-in allows the spring clip 3702 to push back to allow bearing insertion, peg 3705 preventing the clip from rotating with respect to the stator. When the rotor begins to rotate with respect to the stator on starting of the motor rotation of the bearing outer ring 3704 aligns the groove 3701 and the spring clip 3702, allowing the clip to expand and engage the groove 3701, thereby preventing further rotation. Additionally an axial key 3603 prevents housing 202 and stator 211 from rotating. |
